Region: Northern Central Valley & Poas Volcano Area, Alajuela and Heredia.
Bean & Cupping Characteristics: Beans are extremely hard and high in acidity with very good body and aroma.
CENTRAL STRICTLY HARD BEAN (C.S.H.B.)
Region: Center Part of Central Valley & Poas Volcano Area, Grecia and Alajuela. TARRAZÚ QUALITY is produced in this area.
Bean And Cupping Characteristics: Beans are extremely hard and high in acidity with very good body and aroma.
SOUTHERN STRICTLY HARD BEAN (S.S.H.B.)
Region: Southern Central Valley, Tres Ríos & Orosi, Southern areas of San José and Cartago. TARRAZÚ QUALITY is produced in this area.
Bean And Cupping Characteristics: Beans are extremely hard. Acidity ranges between good to very high with good to very good body and aroma.
TARRAZÚ STRICTLY HARD BEAN (T.S.H.B.)
Region: Tarrazú Region, Surrounding San Marcos area. Deep southern part of Central Valley.
Bean And Cupping Characteristics: Beans are extremely hard and very high in acidity with very good body and aroma.
GOOD HARD BEAN (G.H.B.)
Region: Western Valley, Naranjo, Palmares and San Ramón.
Bean And Cupping Characteristics: Good hard beans with very good acidity and aroma and good body. Some grades have excellent aroma.
HARD BEAN (H.B)
Region: Northern, Central, & Southern Central Valley, Lower mountainous areas of San José, Alajuela and Heredia.
Bean And Cupping Characteristics: Hard beans produce a liquor with excellent body and aroma. Acidity is lower than S.H.B and G.H.B.
COTO BRUS MEDIUM HARD BEAN (C.B.M.H.B.)
Region: Coto Brus, Sabalito, Río Negro, San Vito, Agua Buena, Cañas Gordas, etc.
Bean And Cupping Characteristics: Beans are of an intermediate hardness and produces a cup with normal acidity, body and aroma.
